In the immediate vicinity of the Festetics Palace lies the Stove House. Visitors are welcomed by a freestone potter’s workshop where traditional stoves are made by hand, just as at the XX. century.
The history of stoves and other traditional fireplaces can be explored as part of an ever-evolving exhibition. The exhibition features replicas of the stoves, ovens and cookers used in farmhouses at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The exhibition and workshop can also be visited as part of an organised tour. For pre-booked groups, we are happy to arrange a guided tour with a talk, during which visitors can learn about the history, manufacture and use of the kilns, as well as the techniques of pottery-making. As part of this programme, you can not only watch but also try your hand at making tiles yourself. In the ceramics experience room, amidst old objects and in a special atmosphere, handmade individual ceramics await guests.
